4 CORNERS WIN WITH LAST BOWL OF THE DAY
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005A lot of fun was had by all on Sunday for the 2nd Annual VB Lawn Bowls Day. 27 People turned up for the day to step back in time to play Lawn Bowls, have a few drinks and a bite to eat. Ron from the Auburn Lawn Bowls Day was once again a great host.
Five teams of four entered the competition. The teams were
CLUELESS
DEFAULTS (Changed their name from the LL’s due the supposed default win from last year)
4 CORNERS
G-SPOTTERS
JOHNSTON AND JOHNSTON
CLUELESS were given a lucky bye in the first round while the DEFAULTS easily accounted for Steve Bourbons the G-SPOTTERS in a record margin of 13 – 0. The lucky loser for the round were the 4 CORNERS after being beaten 11-0.
The DEFAULTS played 4 CORNERS for a spot in the final. After 3 ends the score was locked at 3-3. Another end was required to break the deadlock. With one bowl remaining the DEFAULTS held 4 shots. Owen bowled the last ball which ended up being a toucher which meant the 4 CORNERS stole victory to progress to the final with a 4-3 scoreline. It must be said that the DEFAULTS were devastated. They were later seen to the early hours of the morning drowning their sorrows at the Winsor Castle.
JOHNSTON AND JOHNSTON played the only all women’s side CLUELESS for the other position in the final. J AND J beat the girls 6-2.
The final went down to the last bowl of the day. With the 4 CORNERS behind, Owen need to get inside a ball that was 2 inches from the jack to win. He bowled another toucher to clinch victory. Owen was a deserved winner of the man of the match and tournament.
After tournament celebrations continued at the Windsor Castle hotel. I think many would have had sore heads on Monday.
