ROUND 5 RESULTS

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Seniors
MONASH GRYPHONS 13.9 (87) defeated ST MARYS 10.12 (72)
Goals: Burgess 5, Kent 2, Vallance, Still, Schultz, Rotstein, Cherian, Wanganeen.
Best: N Rutherford, Wells, Burgess, Rose, Rotstein, Wilson.

The Gryphons started slowly and were trailing by 4 points at the first change. New Ruckman Jesse Burgess drifted forward to kick the Gryphs opening two goals. The second term was pretty tight with both sides trading goals. Nick Rutherford started to find the ball in the midfield and Luke Wilson and Lee Wells were defending stoutly. The game started to open up in the third term as the Gryphs started to get on top. Jake Rotstein and Lachy Vallance were doing well in the ruck and giving Nick Rutherford, Scooter and Gomma first use of the ball. The Gryphs booted seven goals to one in a dominant quarter to take a commanding 35 point lead into the last change. To St Mary’s credit they made a run at the Gryphons in the last quarter but the Gryphs held on to win by 15 points.

Reserves
MONASH GRYPHONS 17.19 (121) defeated ST MARYS 4.8 (32)
Goals:
Parker 4, Fletcher 3, Coxhead 2, George 2, Mandrakis, Robiliard, Landberg, Graydon, Still, Grenfell.
Best: Mareczky, Fletcher, Still, Park, George, Mandrakis.

In a dominant opening half the Gryphs took a 61 point lead into the main break. Simmsy was doing well in the ruck, and Matt Parker, Wigs and Darren Grenfell were all doing well up forward. The second half of the match was more competitive as St Mary’s faught hard but the Gryphs proved too good, and ran out 89 point winners. Adam George impressed in his second game for the club and youngster Otto Mareczky showed he has what it takes to be a good player grabbing close to a dozen marks for the game. Good to see Jeremy Landberg back for his first game for the year too.

Next Week: Bentleigh at Bentleigh. A good test for both sides.
