Past Players Day, Last Game Night and Vote Count

Monday, August 28th, 2006

It was not a successful day on the Ground with two losses but it was one off the ground. A good contingent of past players came down to East Caulfield Reserve to enjoy a luncheon during the twos game. Many of the Elsternwick Past Players and supporters also joined in with the luncheon. It was a great atmosphere with plenty of drinks had, food eaten and stories swapped.

The Last Game night was also held at East Caulfield Reserve. About 40 people turned up to celebrate the end of the season. Plenty of drink was consumed with certain people removing their clothing in a dance off. There were rumours that President did have far too much to drink!

Wigs, Coxy, and Scooter play their 500th game this weekend v Kew

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Congratulations from all in the Gryphons Community on Mark Graydon reaching his 200th game and Brett Coxhead and Gareth Kent on reaching their 150th game vs Kew this weekend.

Mark Graydon commenced his career at the club at the start of the 1993 season. He has played 45 senior games and 155 reserves games. His best season was in 1998 where he played the majority of the year in the seniors and played in the first final in the clubs history. He is a former captain of the Reserves and Runner Up in the Reserves Best and Fairest. He has mainly played across half back and on the wing but he is trying his hand as a leading forward this season. The club thanks him for his efforts on and off the field. He has been on the Committee since 1999 and has performed the duties of Treasurer, General Committee, and is the current President of the club. He also received the honour of being named a Life Member of the club in 2004. He has been know by many nic names over the years such as “Wigs”, “Piglet”, “Wiglet” and “Worst”. From all at the Monash Gryphons the club congratulates you for becoming only the third Player to reach the 200 game mile stone.

PS Will he play next year and beat Heals record of 206 games? You bet he will!

Brett Coxhead started at the club during the 1994 season. He has played 120 Senior games and 30 Reserves games. He mainly played at Back Flank and Wing during his senior career. The highlight of his career would be to have played in the 2003 Senior Grand Final vs Swinburne University. For the last two seasons he has played in the Reserves where he played in last years Grand Final vs St Johns. This year he has become a focal point up forward. He has almost doubled his career goals in 15 games this season. Brett has been a great contributor to the club on the field. Well done Brett!!

PS Will you playing next year?? You need another 50 games to become a Life Member!

Gareth Kent commenced at the club from the University in 1998 and is the youngest player at the club to reach 150games. In his first few seasons at the club he was a Reserves player but has worked extremely hard to become a regular senior player. He has played 84 senior games and 66 Reserves Games. Gareth (Scooter) has got the best out of his ability and this can all be put down to hard work. He has always been a lively member of the club. Over the last few years he has been a very important member of the Committee. His contribution to the club is almost second to none over the last few seasons especially in the Social Side and recruitment during O’week. This season he has contributed more than required and without him the club would not have moved forward this season. Well done Scoots.

Come down to Kew”s ground this weekend and support these guys who have contributed greatly to our club.
