Coaching Panel Announced

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Gives me great pleasure to announce the finalisation of our coaching panel for season 2010.

Jack McDonald has been appointed reserves coach for next season.
Jack was a former senior coach of the Gryphons from 2000-2004 and took the senior side to 2 finals appearances during that time. Notably the Grand Final in 2004. He was instrumental in bringing the Rutherfords and Adrian Flowerday to the Gryphons. Jack stepped away from coaching to spend more time with his young family and is now keen to return to the club and help develop young players and be a part of our clubs future success.

Jack is very excited to be working with our new senior coach Richard Osborne and is passionate about developing reserve players into senior footballers. And to also strive for reserves finals success in 2010.

Please join me in welcoming Jack back to the club. And also to thank Jim Gonis for his work with the reserves over the last 3 years. Jim will continue to be involved in the club in some capacity for many years to come. In fact i’ve heard rumours he might have started pre-season training!

I’m sure you’ll all agree we’ve managed to appoint 2 excellent candidates with loads of experience. Including a very talented assistant… Phil Warren!
Again I encourage all of you to actively start recruiting players. Lets leverage off the momentum we have with signing ‘Ossie’. The festive season is always a good time to start to get blokes keen.

This finalises our coaching panel for 2010.
Senior Coach Richard Osborne
Senior assistant coach Phil Warren
Reserves Coach Jack McDonald

Our first session to meet the coaches will be on Wednesday 25th November. 2 weeks away. Please make sure you are all available to come down to the club 6.30pm and hear from Richard and Jack. We’ll also have a light run to kick off our fitness training!
Ill send an email out before then as a reminder.

New Coach Announced for 2010

Friday, November 6th, 2009

oz2

It gives me great pleasure to announce our new coach for season 2010 is Richard Osborne.

Most of you would have heard of Richard as he played 283 games of VFL/AFL football. As well as representing Victoria on 7 occasions.
Richard started his VFL career in 1982 and played 11 seasons with Fitzroy before moving to the Sydney Swans for a year, Footscray for 3 years and finishing his AFL career with Collingwood in 1998. Richard is probably best known as a strong marking, leading forward kicking 574 goals through his 17 year career.

Richard has played under some of the great coaches including Ron Barassi, David Parkin and Robert Walls and this wealth of experience will be a fantastic addition to the Gryphons for 2010. This is an outstanding appointment and really sets up up with some massive momentum coming into the new season.

Richard is 45 years old, a great family man with 3 kids and is keen to put his passion, time and energy back into grass roots football.

There will be meeting next week to discuss the finalisation of the coaching panel. We will then communicate a date and time for a meet the coach session and advise pre-season training.

We’ve all spoken about 2010 being a huge opportunity for the Monash Gryphons to have a successful year on field. But it wont just happen. You have to get yourselves as fit as possible, and do your best to recruit and bring new players to the club. Now is a great time to start talking to mates and get them keen to be part of the success at Monash Gryphons AFC.

Richard is aware of the standard of lower level amateur football, however he has high expectations of the commitment of the playing group and the professionalism of the club. With a new president and leadership for 2010, exciting things happening off field (especially the construction of 4 new light towers) we have plenty to look forward to for season 2010.

Please join me in thanking Richard for accepting the position of senior coach of our footy club and welcoming him onboard.
